Overview
Yowie is an Aboriginal name meaning ‘place of echoes’. Yowie Bay is located 24 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD and takes its name from the small bay on the north shore of the Port Hacking River. The suburb is surrounded by Gymea Bay and Yowie Bay and ajoins the southern end of Miranda.
Yowie Bay is a mostly residential area with just a few scattered commercial developments. A boat ramp and marina is located at the end of Wonga Road with a general store, café and liquor shop nearby. The Port Hacking Open Sailing Club sits on Yowie Bay near the end of Attunga Road. The main park is Wonga Road Reserve which adjoins Yowie Bay Public School.
Housing is mostly family homes, some with spectacular views and waterfronts. There is also a small number of villas and townhouses, plus Waterbrook Retirement Village.
